About Jeanne

Jeanne Kirkton, a lifelong Missourian, has lived in Webster Groves for 28 years with her husband, Dr. Larry King. Her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren live there too.

Jeanne holds a Nursing degree from Maryville University, her Diploma from Barnes Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia and a Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Webster University.

Community service is an important part of her life and she has volunteered for Food Outreach Inc., Oasis, and Habitat for Humanity and is a member of numerous non-profit organizations.

A strong advocate for gun violence prevention, Jeanne served as the Legislative Director of the St. Louis Million Mom March and on the board of Missourians Against Handgun Violence. She has worked tirelessly at the state and local levels against allowing concealed guns in Missouri.

She served as board member and president of the Jefferson Township Democratic Club, on the State Board of the League of Women Voters of Missouri and the St. Louis League of Women Voter's Education Committee.

Jeanne is a member of the Missouri Association of Social Welfare and participated on their Mental Health Task Force. She has a deep commitment to a healthy environment and conservation. Jeanne sat on the board of Missouri Votes Conservation and the Open Space Council of Greater St. Louis. She was appointed to the Missouri State Parks Advisory Board by Governor Bob Holden and was elected Chair in January 2007.

Most politics are local according to Jeanne and she understands that great ideas and solutions many times begin around kitchen tables. She was elected to the Webster Groves City Council in 2006 with a majority vote and the Missouri State House in 2008. She is a strong proponent of citizen input.

In her elected duties, Jeanne served as Council Liaison to the Webster Groves Library Board of Trustees and the Webster Groves Sustainability Commission, which was created under her leadership. Jeanne serves on the following committees in the Missouri House of Representatives: Health Care Transformation, Transportation, Tax Reform and Appropriations for Health, Mental Health and Social Services.
